Description
John Mohler Studebaker rented a shop at the rear of this location
in the 1850s. He made and repaired wagon wheels and such, eventually
making wheelbarrows for the gold miners. Studebaker progressed to
ammunition wagons for the Union Army. This grew into an extension
wagon and carriage business and eventually automobiles.
This plaque honors John Mohler Studebaker,
"Pioneer, Blacksmith, Soldier, Invetor, Builder"
